Monterey Celebrates Languages and Cultures

Monterey Language and Culture Festival

The city of Monterey, California, home of the Defense Language Institute and the Naval Postgraduate School, is hosting a two day Language and Culture Festival. Called the "Language Capital of the World" due to the number of institutions focused on language acquisition, Monterey boasts a rich mosaic of ethnic origins, languages, religions and cultures.

The two day event will be held downtown in Monterey, and will feature singing and dancing performances, ethnic foods, as well as language and artwork stations.

Dino Pick, Monterey’s Deputy City Manager of Plans and Public Works, says " “The purpose is to celebrate the institutions of higher learning — the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), the Defense Language Institute (DLI) and Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and businesses such as Language Line Services, and Media Locate — with the intention of promoting language and culture learning in the region”.
