Culture Matters: Roots

This video discusses what is seen and unseen in cultures: behaviors and norms, and values and beliefs. This is a part of the Culture Matters video series.
Video Transcript

Similar to the stalks, stems, and leaves of a plant, which are visible above the soil, we're able to observe another culture's behaviors and norms. Behaviors and norms are what we see when we observe a culture. They grow out of values and beliefs that you can't see. Similar to the roots of a plant, values and beliefs anchor and nourish a culture. It takes some effort to discover them, since they're below the surface. The more you can understand the culture, values, and beliefs below the surface, the more you will understand the culture you will observe. Culture matters.
