In the wake of what has so far been a devastating hurricane season, the U.S. military, FEMA, and numerous other groups have been working hard to deliver relief and aid to the Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Here, we highlight a few of these relief missions.
The Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP) is designed and managed by the Air Force Culture and Language Center (AFCLC) to sustain, enhance and utilize the existing language skills and talents of Airmen. The goal of LEAP is to develop a core group of general-purpose force (GPF) Airmen across specialties and careers possessing the capability to communicate in one or more foreign languages.
The purpose of this descriptive study is to discuss the creation and implementation of a self-paced course designed to present military and academic course content in an engaging and interactive format. The paper reviews the "Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication" course piloted to 150 Air Force personnel in Spring 2011 and reveals the challenges and opportunities inherent to self-paced courses for student service members and instructors.
