Defense Language Transformation Roadmap (2005)
The Defense Language Transformation Roadmap was built out of a need for each Military Department, Combatant Command (COCOM), and Defense Agency to review its requirements for language professionals. The Defense Foreign Language Steering Committee (DFLSC) oversaw the development of this Roadmap and approved its assumptions, descriptions of the current situation, desired outcomes, and recommendations.

Differences in reasoning styles between Chinese and European Americans held even when controlling for the language of testing. Bilingual Chinese organized objects in a more relational and less categorical way than European Americans, whether tested in English or in Chinese. Thus, culture affects categorization independent of the testing language.

A Model of Culture-General Competence for Education and Training: Validation Across Services and Key Specialties
The aim of the current study was to further test a model of culture-general competence. We call the model Adaptive Readiness for Culture (ARC). It is general in that it applies across all regions of interest. The skills that comprise ARC were identified in an earlier study of 20 Marine Corps and Army service members who had worked in multiple cultures.
