We do PT to ensure we're prepared for the physical stress of combat. One of the reasons you run in formation is to reinforce the concept of team. In the Army, as with any culture, there is no such thing as a culture of one. One person is a personality. When we run with someone else, we establish a common pace. Working with different cultures works the same way. To be successful in another culture, we need to adjust at their pace. Culture matters.
