"People in general think we Japanese are very polite, and, well, it's yes and no. That politeness is usually based on Confucianism, because in Confucianism, you are supposed to respect higher seniority to you, and you're supposed to be trustworthy, and you're supposed to be honest, you're supposed to be hardworking. All those concepts are from Confucianism. And Confucianism is something we have been taught by our parents since we are little, and they didn't tell us 'based on Confucianism,' or probably they didn't know. That's been taught from generation to generation."

A Japanese national discusses the influence of Confucianism on Japanese society.
