Currency in Senegal

Video Transcript

The currency in Senegal is the CFA or the West African Franc. Bills are in 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 [denominations]. If you go to get money at a bank or an ATM, they will only give you 10,000 note bills, and those are incredibly difficult to get change for. So if you go to a little cafe or a little shop and you try to purchase something with a 10,000 bill, they'll often have to send someone to go and find change somewhere else. Try to get smaller bills, and if you get a whole bunch of change in coins or in small bills, hold on to it for those instances where someone may not have change.

In this video, a Senegalese expert discusses exchanging money in Senegal.
