Demographics of Kazakhstan

Video Transcript

I've only traveled to Kazakhstan once, but it does have the, I can tell you it has the largest ethnic Russian population of all the Central Asian States. And that population is mostly concentrated in the northern part of the country, for good reason, [it's] closest to the border with Russia. Other than that, predominantly Kazakh ethnicity, but there's a representation of probably all the Central Asian ethnicities. Probably that the next highest ethnic population after the Kazakhs, of course the Russians, and then probably the Kyrgyz, and then a scattering of the others to include a not insignificant minority Chinese population of the Uyghurs, which are the ethnic Muslim Chinese. They also, the cross-border, share a border [with] China, and that's where the Uyghur population from China originates from.

In this video, a U.S. Army civilian employee discusses the ethnic landscape of Kazakhstan.
