Language Landscape in Morocco

Video Transcript

Language was not as difficult as some countries. The biggest challenge with them was sometimes with the interpretation, they would have to do it three ways; they would translate from English to French, from French to Berber. And that could be one drawback. All the officers speak French. Some of the enlisted troops would speak more Arabic. However, if you spoke French, you could pretty much get along with just about anyone there. So that helped for some people. Arabic, obviously, if you knew Arabic you could communicate with everyone.

In this video, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps discusses language in Morocco.
