Ramadan in Algeria

Video Transcript

[In] Algeria, Ramadan is a big deal. A huge deal, huge deal. Whether you like it or not, you fast. And if you don't fast, you hide. You cannot eat in the street, particularly as a Muslim. Even a non-Muslim, you have to respect people, you cannot drink, smoke, eat in the street. As a U.S. official, don't count on finding restaurants open, they are closed. Even in the bigger, big, big, big hotels, they don't serve. Unless it has changed lately, they don't. So, be prepared, buy your own food and put it in your room if you are in their hotel room. And just eat your sandwiches in your rooms.

In this video, an Algerian national discusses Ramadan in Algeria.
