Video Transcript

(Note: This transcript has been edited for readability.)

There is a sense of respect for all living things in India and respect for being able to be one with all creatures, human or otherwise. And part of the culture there is very much respecting the Earth and respecting people around you, respecting the space that you both inhabit at that time and animals were there just when humans were there and so there's this understanding that we can coexist.

You will see cows, you will see buffalo, you will see sheep and goats and lots of stray dogs. And with cows, it is an honored animal. It is, you know, highly respected. You would never kill a cow because that is like killing your mother. And so there is a great respect for just life.

An Indian national discusses religion and the respect for animals in India.
