Video Transcript

While they are all Islamic majority religion, there are other significant religious populations. The next highest religious population would be the Russian Orthodox religion, because of the Russian population. But as a whole, Central Asia is probably somewhere, I'd say, 90% Islamic persuasion in religion, but noticeably and significantly different than Middle Eastern Islamic religion. The Islamic religion is becoming more popular in Central Asia, and while it was the least fundamentalist region, I'd say, of Islam, after the break-up of the Soviet Union, the populations are becoming more [fundamentalist]. And that's the fear of all the leaders of all the Central Asian States.

In this video, a U.S. Army civilian employee discusses religion and Islam in the Central Asian States.
