Religion in Jordan

Video Transcript

“Jordan is almost like 94%, according to the U.N., [Muslim] and then like 5% is Christian, and then there are minorities [that are] Bahai’i and Jewish. Because of the Sharia law and Jordan is a tribal society, we also have the honor and shame culture and the pride of our tribes. The Sharia law is a must and very recognized by elders and tribal leaders, not just only religion. And it’s kind of like our society when it comes to marriage, especially Muslims, I’m talking about Muslim society, you have to go by the Sharia law and in inheritance, you have to go by the Sharia law. There is not like a civil court. You go to the civil court and [Sharia law is] a must.”
