Rural Living in Haiti

Video Transcript

In the rural areas, the main difference between that and city life is the simplicity of the rural areas because you're literally surrounded by mountains most of the time and there is no electricity at all as opposed to Port au Prince which has electricity every couple hours. With this, basically they live by the sun, so to speak. So everything they do, all the activities are usually centered around sunlight and things like that. And [they] use a lot of candles and gasoline candles.

There's no phone. Phones are usually a town over, or a village over. It takes a while to get a message to a loved one, so it better be important. So, it's a lot more difficult because it's harder to communicate.

In this video, a native Haitian describes how rural people live in her country.
