Social Gatherings at Restaurants in Korea

"So in my experience, when you have engagements with your Korean counterparts, they typically invite you to a more traditional type of Korean restaurant where it is communal seating. You're grouped around the table, and usually the center of the table is some sort of grill, or some sort of hot pot of some type that they cook the food in. Usually the lowest-ranking member at the table is the one doing the cooking, and they will handle all of the cooking duties. You can jump in and ask questions, and feel free to try your hand at some of the cooking, but usually they'll have one of their members—especially since they're hosting if it's at a Korean restaurant—will do the cooking or the grilling at the table. But usually it's always in that kind of communal sort of seating."

In this video, a service member describes a social gathering at a restaurant hosted by South Korean counterparts.
