Women's Rights in Côte d'Ivoire

Video Transcript

“Women, I would say, have more freedom and more opportunities in the South compared to the North which is more conservative in part due to the Muslim belief system. In Abidjan you have women who are CEOs of companies, in the government you have, I believe in the last government you have eight women in the cabinet. You have women who are college professors, doctors, lawyers. In the North, because of the Muslim religion influence, women are less visible outside of the house. They are mainly busy taking care of child rearing, their husband, their husband’s family, and the household chores.”

In this video, a Côte d'Ivoire expert discusses women in Côte d'Ivoire.
