Celebrate International Education Week 2019
Next week is International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative by the Department of State and Department of Education. IEW is intended to promote study abroad programs, as well as other initiatives that bring together students from around the world and foster cross-cultural connections.
The State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has an extensive list of events happening across the country and around the globe. Events range from experiencing a taste of culture through food or music, to study abroad fairs and how to apply for study abroad scholarships. Here are a few happening at various colleges and universities:
- UCLA: National Language Service Corps Information Sessions (Tuesday, 11/19)
- University of Wisconsin–Madison: Coffee from Around the World (Monday, 11/18) and Okinawan Style Drumming Performance (Wednesday, 11/20)
- George Washington University: Fiesta Latina (Wednesday, 11/20)
- Loyola-Marymount University: Global Citizen Day (Wednesday, 11/20)
- University of Arkansas: Dandiya Night (Friday, 11/15)
- San Jose State University: An Introduction to Chinese Culture and Name Pronunciation (Friday, 11/22)
If you are already abroad but want to participate in an event, or if there isn't one happening at your University, there are plenty happening around the world and online:
- Virtual: The 9th Annual Global Education Conference (November 18-20)
- Moldova: International Education Week at America House (November 19-23)
- Peru: The Power of International Education (Saturday, 11/16)
