How Do We See Ourselves? A Looking Glass Self-Reflection on Americans

Often times on when discussing culture, we get fixated on other cultures, other peoples, and other norms and practices that are different from our own without recognizing our own culture and who we are. The first step to understanding cultural differences is an introspective look within to realize our own culture, practices, norms, and beliefs. An ethnography is the systematic study of a people and culture and is designed to explore cultural phenomena.

We highly recommend this very interesting and famous ethnography on American cultural practices entitled "Body Ritual among the Nacirema" written by Horace Miner. Click here to read the article.
